know the cold from the warm

“Cold and warm is self-knowledge.

The phrase “Seeing is believing” means that no matter how many explanations you give to others, seeing something once is not enough.

The phrase “cold and warm are self-evident” tells us the same thing, and comes from the saying, “Drink water and you will know cold and warm by yourself. It means that you can understand the warmth or coldness of water only if you drink it and see for yourself.

The way people perceive subjective information such as coldness or warmth is different for each person, so even if someone explains it to you or shows you the temperature measured by a thermometer, in the end you will not understand until you drink it and experience it for yourself.

It is not uncommon for people to find it difficult to convey their ideas to others, even if they are based on their own experiences. For example, no matter how wonderfully functional a system is that you have created, if the user has never experienced it before, it is often difficult to convey not only in a presentation but also in a demo.

In order to communicate this well, it is important to build a story based on the premise that the listener will not understand 10 by saying 1, or even 3 or 4. It is important to think deeply about the listener and determine what points they can empathize with, and to carefully do what is obvious in a sense.

No matter how great the idea is, if it is not conveyed to the audience, it will have no value. Engineers are also required to have the empathy to imagine what others are going through.
